When to contact a medical professional if you suspect someone has overdosed
Drug emergencies are not always easy to identify. If you suspect someone has overdosed, or if you suspect someone is experiencing withdrawal, give first aid and seek medical assistance.
Try to find out what drug the person has taken. If possible, collect all drug containers and any remaining drug samples or the person's vomit and take them to the hospital.
The National Poison Control Center (1-800-222-1222) can be called from anywhere in the United States. They will give you further instructions.
This is a free and confidential service. All local poison control centers in the United States use this national number. You should call if you have any questions about poisoning or poison prevention. It does NOT need to be an emergency. You can call for any reason, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.(4)
After the immediate safety of the addicted party is determined it is important to get the addicted party out of the environment of their addiction. Detoxification facilities are the best option. Here is a list of detoxification facilities in Ohio.
Here in Logan County there are options such as the Family Treatment Court program, 90 treatments in 90 days as well as other counseling and treatment options listed above.
The adult treatment court deals with children services cases in which it has been determined that the parents are unable to parent their children. 4 drug screens a week. Weekend monitors to make sure that the participants aren’t engaging in risk behaviors or making the environment dangerous for children. We help them get jobs or finish school. Children services workers are totally dedicated to this population. 60-70 percent of caseload is substance abuse affected. They come to court every week. Drug screens counseling. Phases of supervision. By graduation (about a year) only coming to court 1 a month. Families and sober supports come to celebrate with the Judge. Currently success is a 60% success rate. 10 year anniversary graduated 48 participants.
Juvenile treatment court includes representatives from the counseling agency from children services or from the schools.
