Friends/Peers
When it comes to talking to friends or peers about drug abuse, nobody wants to be “uncool” or “outcast”. I mean …COME ON!
“Hey dude, you aren’t abusing prescription or other illicit drugs are you?” That isn’t exactly locker room chat. Nor will it earn you points at a weekend party. So then when is the “right” time to bring it up?...At the police station after being arrested for illegal drug possession?....In the ambulance after an overdose?....In the hospital while your addicted friend is in a coma and may or may not recover?...Or is the appropriate time and moment at the funeral?... when the addiction that you didn’t mention has finally given its last consequence… and the friend you had so much fun with but never had the difficult conversation with about how drug addiction can lead to the worst case scenario of death is now dead. Unable to hear or speak with you about how they want to quit but can’t.
Now is the time! Whatever moment you find yourself in and whatever setting and whoever is around. Even if you risk losing your cool. A life is worth the cost of cool a million times over!
